Surrender and Co-creation

I received this question from one of the people in our Ease Into Being community today:
“I would like to ask about surrender vs co-creation. I always set intentions and co-create my reality with the Universe, however I was recently asked if we truly surrender to god, and truly believe the Universe arranges the best for us, why we do need to set intentions?
This is a great question and something I have had personal experience with so my reply is based on my own experiences.
First of all it is about understanding what surrender means. For many surrendering still has the energy of giving up or at the very least giving in. There may be a sense that the battle has been lost and the opposite side has won. Certainly there is the energy of losing control. What if surrendering in this instance simply means letting go of attachment to outcome? When I have mentioned this I often hear the reply “but how can something happen if the outcome doesn’t matter to you? I thought you said our thoughts create our reality. I happen to think in terms of energy and vibrational frequency. When you need something to happen (ie attachment to outcome) the frequency being sent out is need. So what comes back is the need for whatever it is you desire. Here’s an example: money is tight, there may not be enough to pay all the bills that are due. You work hard on manifesting more cash. Instead of more cash coming, more bills appear! The car suddenly needs some maintenance work or an unexpected visit to the dentist is needed. What the &%*!, you may say, thinking you were working hard on manifesting cash and not bills! What happened was the need for cash was the energy being sent out so what came back was the need for cash in the form of more expenses. So how do we work on manifesting without sending out the energy of need when the need is very real? One phrase I use that has worked for me many times, is to say (and believe) “even though it may take miracles for this to happen, a solution is already present and I choose to have this problem solved now! Thank you Universe for showing me the solutions available to me”. And then the most challenging part may be letting it go. Anytime the problem pops its worried head up, you can remind yourself, “even though it may take miracles for this to happen, a solution is already present and I choose to have this problem solved now! Thank you Universe for showing me the solutions available to me”.
With regards to the second part of the question of ‘why do I need to set intentions?” There is such a thing as being too spiritual or too devout. The idea that ‘whatever the Universe wants to give me is fine’ is all well and good. That’s when we think we are apart  from the Universe instead of being part of it. It is like being hungry and sitting the restaurant of God/the Universe and starving waiting for the meal to come. You sit there, pray, hope, whatever, and nothing happens. That is because we haven’t placed our order. There was a time when I was too passive and had the attitude of whatever is divinely arranged will happen not realizing that we get to ‘arrange’ our lives each and every day. I do believe there are times that we get what we need which may not be what we want because of our soul lessons. That is why it is helpful to ensure we don’t have any monastic vows of hardship and suffering left over from past lifetimes. I believe we can learn really well without having to suffer!  Yes there may be pain and discomfort, that is very different from suffering. So back to the restaurant of God/the Universe. You say, ok, I’m willing to place my order but where is the menu? You get the menu and it is blank! That is because it is our own responsiblity to create the menu. That is where setting intentions come in. Setting intentions happens by creating the menu and placing your order. In replying to the original question about surrendering vs co-creation, the answer to me is that they are not an either/or. And in order to have harmony and balance with regards to what we manifest the best outcomes occur when we set clear intentions and let go of any attachment to outcome (ie. surrender)
Also in order to manifest successfully a series of conditions have to me met.
Perhaps that topic will be addressed in the next article I post 😀.
As always I look forward to your comments. Please post them below.

I love this phrase “even though it may take miracles for this to happen, a solution is already present and I choose to have this problem solved now! Thank you Universe for showing me the solutions available to me” and find it very useful in my life
